- Corporate Positioning and Reputation Management: He has developed and executed communications plans to help companies advance their business objectives and protect and enhance their reputations. He has also advised clients on communications issues arising from crisis situations, such as regulatory investigations, cybersecurity matters, policy issues, high profile litigation, unplanned management changes, workforce reductions and short attacks.
- Mergers & Acquisitions: He advises companies on the communications challenges involved in both friendly and unsolicited M&A transactions. Recent assignments include: LaSalle in its pending sale to Blackstone; Rent-A-Center in its pending sale to Vintage Capital Management; BW LPG in its proposed combination with Dorian LPG; Verifone in its pending sale to Francisco Partners; Snyder’s-Lance in its sale to Campbell Soup Company; Sabra Healthcare REIT in its merger with Care Capital Properties; Jacobs Engineering Group in its acquisition of CH2M Hill Cos. Ltd; DigitalGlobe in its sale to MDA Holdings; CIT in the sale of its commercial aircraft leasing business to Avolon Holdings Limited; Johnson & Johnson in its acquisition of Actelion; Monsanto in its sale to Bayer; Danone in its acquisition of WhiteWave Foods and sale of Stonyfield Foods to Lactalis; Everyday Health in its sale to Ziff Davis; Outerwall in its go-private transaction with Apollo Group; Sysco in its acquisition of Brakes Group; Monsanto on its unsolicited proposal to acquire Syngenta; KeyCorp in its acquisition of First Niagara; Macerich on its defense against an unsolicited proposal from Simon Property Group; and Sears Holdings on the formation of the REIT Seritage Growth Properties.
- Shareholder Activism: He has worked with a number of companies in activism situations and proxy contests opposite Corvex Management, Elliott Management, Engaged Capital, Icahn Enterprises, JANA Partners, Land & Buildings, Marcato Capital Management, Sandell Asset Management, Starboard Value, Trian Partners, Third Point and ValueAct, among others.
- Public and Investor Relations: He has developed and executed comprehensive multi-stakeholder communications campaigns for clients across a range of industries. He regularly assists companies in raising their corporate profiles, preparing for quarterly earnings and enhancing their relationships with key stakeholder audiences.
Matthew joined Joele Frank in 2015. Prior to joining Joele Frank, Matthew served as a Director at FTI Consulting. He graduated from New York University with a BS in Media, Culture & Communication.
