Managing Director

Richard applies his almost two decades of experience as a strategic communications advisor and corporate attorney to counsel publicly traded and privately held companies, private equity firms, hedge funds, boards of directors, and management teams on complex and high-profile strategic communications, crisis management, and transformative matters involving restructurings, mergers and acquisitions, spin-offs, cybersecurity incidents, litigations, management transitions, and government investigations. His strategic communications experience spans an array of industries, including retail, finance, technology, pharmaceuticals, energy, O&G, healthcare, real estate, gaming and entertainment, leisure, and lodging.

Restructuring & Bankruptcy

He has extensive experience advising companies, boards of directors, financial sponsors, and creditor groups involved in out-of-court and in-court financial and operational restructurings, as well as asset sales. Select company-side representations include Party City, Endo Pharmaceuticals, Hertz, L’Occitane en Provence, Century 21, and Athenex. Select creditor-side restructuring matters include Diamond Sports Group, Hornblower Group, TPC Group, and Washington Prime Group.

Mergers & Acquisitions and Spin-Offs

He advises and develops communications plans to support companies engaged in mergers, acquisitions, strategic partnerships, joint ventures, spin-offs, and corporate realignments. Select representative matters include Bally’s Corporation’s combination with Gamesys Group, Extraction Oil & Gas, Inc.’s all-stock merger of equals with Bonanza Creek Energy, Inc., Civitas Resources Inc.’s acquisition of Crestone Peak Resources, Crane Co.’s separation into two, independent, publicly traded companies, and ODP Corporation’s realignment of its holding company structure into four distinct business segments.

Crisis Communications

He counsels clients across industries on crisis preparedness and response plans related to a range of issues, including government inquiries and investigations, management transitions, cybersecurity incidents, and litigations.

Richard joined Joele Frank in 2024. Prior to that, he was a Principal at Kekst CNC. He began his career practicing as a restructuring and litigation attorney at law firms including Weil, Gotshal & Manges and Kirkland & Ellis, during which time he advised clients on an extensive range of financial and operational reorganizations, liability management transactions, and litigations.

Richard holds a J.D., cum laude, from Brooklyn Law School, and a B.S. in Policy, Analysis and Management from Cornell University where he graduated with honors.
