Jon advises financial sponsors and public companies on media and investor relations, as well as mergers, restructurings, and other special situations. His areas of expertise include:

  • Financial Sponsors: He advises private equity and credit firms, as well as their portfolio companies, on strategic communications for investor and media relations, investment activity, new listings and fundraising efforts. Current and former clients include Apollo, Arena Investors, Ascendent Capital, Aurora, Bernhard Capital, Blackstone, CC Capital, Cinven, Cornell Capital, EnCap, First Reserve, Fundamental Advisors, Gerding Edlen, Innovatus Capital, Kanders & Co., Kayne Anderson, L Catterton, Park Hill Group, Ridgewood Energy, Stonecourt Capital, Terra Capital Partners, Tower Three Partners, Warburg Pincus and Z Capital Partners.
  • Real Assets: He advises on special situations involving real estate, gaming and infrastructure. Current and former clients include Affinity Gaming, BRE, Campus Crest, Cedar Realty, ClubCorp, Chatham Lodging, First Potomac, Mack-Cali, New York REIT, Penn REIT, Pinnacle Entertainment, RMR, Strategic Hotels and WP Carey. He has also advised financial sponsors on such transactions as Kayne Anderson’s purchase of the Towers in Brooklyn; Z Capital on its acquisition of Canyon Ranch Miami and Waldhaus Flims in Switzerland; Fundamental Advisors on the purchase of the El San Juan hotel and sale of AutoZone park in Memphis. Jon began his career in real estate investment banking at DLJ and Credit Suisse and covered real estate, gaming and infrastructure as a reporter for Reuters and Bloomberg News.
  • M&A: Recent assignments include advising Cornell Capital on its acquisition of World Kitchen and the Hartford’s Talcott; ClubCorp on its sale to Apollo; L Catterton on its investment in Equinox; Blackstone and CF Corp. on their acquisition of Fidelity & Guaranty Life; Kayne Anderson on its acquisition of KKR-backed Sentio and student housing sale to Temasek’s Mapletree; EnCap on the sale of EagleClaw to Blackstone; First Reserve on the infrastructure sale to BlackRock; Anbang on the acquisition of Strategic Hotels from Blackstone; Rouse and Associated Estates on their sales to Brookfield; Catterton on its merger with L Capital; PJT on its merger with Blackstone’s advisory business; Pinnacle on its sale of real estate to GLPI; Apollo on the acquisition of CEC Entertainment; the Memphis Redbirds on the sale to the St. Louis Cardinals; Perella Weinberg on the sale of the Flagship Rail Services to Sumitomo; and Värde Partners on the acquisition of FirstCity.
  • Shareholder Activism: He counsels public companies on activist investors and helps defend against proxy contests. Jon has worked extensively with REITs, asset managers and casino or hotel operators facing dissident shareholders. Recent assignments have been opposite Corvex, Elliott, FrontFour, JANA, Greenlight, Land & Buildings, Luxor, Orange Capital and Snow Park.

Jon joined Joele Frank in 2012. He previously worked as a financial journalist at Bloomberg News, where he covered mergers, restructuring and private equity and regularly contributed to Bloomberg Businessweek magazine, Bloomberg TV and Bloomberg conferences. Jon was also published in The Wall Street Journal, Newsweek and Reuters during his seven years as a financial journalist. He began his career in investment banking at Donaldson, Lufkin & Jenrette and Credit Suisse. Jon received a BA in political science from Columbia University and an MA in journalism with a focus on business and economic reporting from New York University.
